What a Special Operations soldier earns — Lamego
Portuguese military pay is the base pay from the single public-sector table (2026 levels, DL 29-A/2026) plus the military status supplement (20% of base pay + €400). There is no separate special-forces allowance for Special Operations: a soldier of the same rank in any unit earns the same. Base pay and the supplement are paid 14 times a year (Christmas and holiday allowances), which the yearly view (×12) does not include; whether the 2026 budget’s +2% raises the fixed part to €408 is unconfirmed.

Questions
Where do the numbers come from?
From the Portuguese Army’s official recruiting page for Special Operations (exercito.pt, Junta-te — Tropas Especiais), read on 18 Oct 2026; the page itself is undated.
How do these standards compare with the Comandos and Paratroopers?
The Paratroopers (Paraquedistas) have the same strength and running minimums, but an 8 km march in 60 minutes with 5 kg. The Comandos ask for more pull-ups (8) and sit-ups (60 in 2 minutes) but fewer push-ups (30), with no timed run and an 8 km march. Special Operations has the longest march: 15 km in 120 minutes with 10 kg.
Are there different standards for women or by age?
No. The prerequisites are the same minimums for every candidate, with no scoring scale. Only the general Army fitness test at entry has separate tables for men and women — and that test is not eliminatory.
