U.S. Army Special Forces (Green Berets)
Army Fitness Test — combat standard (18X entry)

Special Forces jobs (the 18 series) are Army combat specialties, so Green Berets must meet the Army Fitness Test (AFT) combat standard: at least 60 points in each of five events — deadlift, hand-release push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank and two-mile run — and 350 points in total. Combat-standard scoring is sex-neutral and age-normed. The AFT has been the Army’s test of record since 1 June 2025.

Also required

  • The AFT combat standard covers the Special Forces jobs 18A, 180A, 18B, 18C, 18D, 18E, 18F and 18Z. It applies from 1 January 2026 in the Regular Army and from 1 June 2026 in the Army Reserve and National Guard.
  • Scoring is sex-neutral and age-normed: every soldier is scored on the M|C (male/combat) column for their age group. The thresholds shown are for ages 17–21; older groups have somewhat lower thresholds in most events.
  • Since Army Directive 2026-07 (17 April 2026) soldiers in combat specialties also take the Combat Field Test (CFT): pass/fail, seven events, within 30 minutes. Its standards are not included here.

Questions

Why are there two levels?

The combat standard has two conditions: at least 60 points in every event and at least 350 points in total. Five events at exactly 60 points make only 300, so the minimum level shows the per-event floor. The second level is one way to reach 350 — 70 points everywhere; any other combination totalling 350 with no event below 60 also passes.

Does this cover Special Forces selection (SFAS)?

No. The page shows the AFT combat standard that applies to all 18-series soldiers. We have no official source with fitness thresholds for SFAS itself, so we do not show any.

Where do the numbers come from?

From the official “Army Fitness Test Score Tables” (approved 15 May 2025, effective 1 June 2025) on army.mil, and from Army Directive 2025-06 (17 April 2025), par. 4b(1): 60 points per event and 350 in total for combat specialties. Army Directive 2026-07 (17 April 2026) leaves these thresholds unchanged.
